According to the latest reports, the former US president, Donald Trump and his advisors were anticipating the impeachment for days. However, they were caught off guard when the indictment came yesterday evening. Donald Trump and his advisors were taken aback because they were expecting no charges at least not before the end of April or perhaps never at all.
The former president and his aides had initially thought that the grand jury’s break from next week’s session indicated that the prosecutors in the district attorney’s office were re-evaluating their decision to seek an indictment in the case.
However, this optimism was short-lived when Trump’s advisers, who had grown weary of waiting with him for weeks for charges to materialize, informed him of the indictment while he was at Mar-a-Lago.
Earlier, the Manhattan grand jury in New York indicted Donald Trump over a hush payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels. The porn star alleged having an intimate affair with the real estate tycoon back in 2006. As a result, Trump reportedly instructed his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to pay her $130,000 to maintain her silence. But the former president still denies the affair.
Now, Chuck Grassley, the most senior Republican senator, has joined the Republicans’ chorus, claiming that Trump’s indictment is politically motivated. He took to Twitter to point out Joe Biden’s brother and son and accused the justice system of being biased towards Democrats.
However, it’s worth noting that as of last October, the word was that federal prosecutors were closing in on charges against Hunter Biden.
